Trails and Grooming Update

January 4, 2022

Good Morning Nelson Nordic,

Wow that was quite the snow day yesterday, I will be sore the rest of the week from shoveling. Today should be a bit more normal. Current conditions as of 6:15am are -9c with 29cm of snow accumulation over the last 12 hours. Temperatures look to remain stable throughout the day. Some flurries today with about 2 to 4 cm of accumulation.

Grooming is well underway with Clearwater complete along with all the loops, Cottonwood, Night loop are also complete and eastern Busk is complete. Busk main and Euphrates are underway at the moment.

On this day in 1540 Henry the Eighth married his fourth wife, Anne of Cleves. He quickly has second thoughts and has the marriage annulled. As she is cooperative she is one of the four that keeps her head and is given an estate, where she lives out her life peacefully! Lucky her.

Trails and Grooming Update

Update at 3 pm, January 3rd, 2021

We regret any inconvenience but we will not be opening the kiosks at all today. Our staff were snowed in this morning. Grooming was underway, but of course, with the volume of snow, took quite a bit longer than normal. More snow is expected overnight. We are planning to address this by having Jason take a shift from 5 to 11 pm this evening to widen some of the more exposed trails on the network (Clearwater main & Cottonwood Rail Grade). Then Graham will head out again in the early morning to groom the network for tomorrow. We anticipate that the kiosks will be open tomorrow from 9 am to 3 pm, as usual. Thanks for your understanding.

EARLIER

Conditions at our club as of 6:45am is -7c with 32cm of snow accumulation overnight. Environment Canada is predicting a further 20cm before it subsides. Temperatures are predicted to drop a couple of degrees before mid day.

Grooming is underway, Clearwater is nearly done. Grooming of the remaining trails will probably take much longer than usual and need to be redone again before the trails are back to normal. Bare with us while we deal with this extraordinary amount of snow. When complete we will have a fantastic base for a good long season this year.

Today is going to be close to the Kootenay single day snowfall record of Sparwood in February 2017 where they received 60cm of snow in a single day.

Good Morning Skiers,Current conditions at our club as of 6:30 are -16c with calm winds and no fresh snow over the last 12 hrs. Temperatures should rise to -12 by mid day, with some snow continuing.

Grooming looks to be well on its way. Clearwater and Busk Euphrates have been refreshed minus the loops. The Night Loop is done as well.

Looks like a good day for skiing with a bit warmer temperatures than we have been having.

January 1 was adopted as the first day of the year, throughout Europe at Different times. Germany was first in 1544 with Britain not until 1752. The change was related to the change from the Julian to the Gregorian Calendar. Under the Julian Calendar new years was December 19th.

Today is the last day of Yule and is in honor of god Thor and his wife Sif. Today is the day to drive evil spirits from your home. Burning of mugwart and Juniper in your home, sprinkle ashes from the Yule fire on your doorstep. At midnight sing loud obnoxious songs and bang pots and pans, to drive the last of the evil spirits out of your home
