Last Saturday and Sunday, skiers from Invermere, Golden, Fernie, Kimberley, Rossland, Valhalla Hills and Nelson raced last Saturday and Sunday at Apex & Busk in the final two Teck Kootenay Cup races of the season.
We had a large contingent of local skiers who helped Nelson Nordic secure second overall in the Teck Kootenay Cup race series, edged out only by Black Jack Ski Club out of Rossland!
On Saturday, we had a great sprint course set up including our famous bumps – one athlete even did a star jump in the air (new sport – aerial cross country for the next Olympics). On Sunday, our individual classic course wound through our big forest on the Busk side of the highway.
For some young racers it was their first time in a race and big smiles by racers and parents showed the enthusiasm for the event. It helped to have Ms. Jacquelyn Rabbit along to show them the way!
Great fun was had by all, the weather was perfect and trail conditions were awesome, thanks to our new PistenBully, operated by Graham. A HUGE thank you to ALL the volunteers who did a great job making this a super fun event for everyone to participate in. We couldn’t have done it without our volunteers so a big thanks to everyone!
Special thanks are due to our race organizing committee: Louise Poole, Andrew Chewter, Jay McKimm, George Edney, Kim Horrocks, Mike Knapik and Nicole Perrin. And to our perennial MC Rich Milde. THANK YOU!
