Introduction to Community Coaching Workshop in Kaslo Sept 17-18

The “ICC” Workshop is designed to teach parents and other beginning coaches with basic information and a feeling of confidence as they begin their role as a coach. It teaches coaches how to deliver a series of age-appropriate skill development sessions under the guidance/supervision of more experienced coaches. The orientation is to skiers of all age groups with an emphasis on working with children under six years of age (the “Active Start” stage of athlete development). Coaches are taught basic coaching skills, how to teach the fundamentals of technique, growth and development considerations, how to create a motivating learning environment and how to set up a ski playground. There are no prerequisites except enthusiasm and the minimum age requirement of 14 years.
More info here.

Workshop Fee: The fee is $80.00 per person for CCBC members and $160.00 per person for non-members. The club must therefore guarantee a minimum payment of $640.00 for the workshop. If less than 8 participants show up, the cost of holding the workshop is still $640.00. If you have 6 or less participants registered the workshop will be rescheduled or cancelled.
The workshop will be in Kaslo on the 17th and 18th… exact location and times are still being worked out. I will be the POC, the best way to reach me is at foxrrest@gmail.com, I could also receive phone messages at 250-353-2251.

This is the third step in the NCCP coach education program.  Coaches are taught about developmental age, physical literacy, team building, making ethical decisions, athletic components (aerobic fitness, speed, etc.), nutrition, how to design their own sport program, adventure-based activities (year-round), roller-skiing and planning a practice.

The CCI (L2T) program provides tools and develops skills that a coach can use to:

  1. Create a fun, team-oriented environment that will motivate children to achieve their personal goals in sport and develop a lifelong interest in the fitness and health benefits of cross-country skiing
  2.  Deliver a well-rounded sport program with an emphasis on skill development to children nine to 12 years of age (the L2T stage of development).

This course is subsidized thanks to the support of Cross Country BC, viaSport and PacificSport Columbia Basin as part of Coaches Week in BC!
