Trails and Grooming Update

Wednesday January 11

Good Morning Nelson Nordic skiers,

The time is 6:35am and the temperature at our club is -4c, with no fresh snow overnight. Temperatures should rise to +2c by midday with periods of snow later in the morning.

Grooming is complete on Cottonwood and Railgrade and the Busk portion of the Busk/Euphrates network. Clearwater is being groomed at the moment. Grooming should be complete on the Apex side around 9:00am

It looks like our moose may be a feature of our trails for this winter. Just a reminder to give her lots of space if you encounter her, don’t approach her.

Moose also live in Northern Europe and are all through Scandinavia. In Europe the Moose is called an Elk. When the English arrived in Virginia in the early 1600’s they were aware of the Moose/Elk and in Virginia they had North American Elk/Wapiti, but no Moose. So they called the Wapiti an Elk. When later they encountered moose in Canada they adopted the name moose from the Algonquin people, where in their language it means “bark stripper”
