December 30th, 2021
Good Morning Nelson Nordic skiers,
Conditions at our club at 07:15am are -19c, with calm winds. There was about 1cm of snow accumulation over the last 12 hours. Conditions are going to be partly sunny today with some periods of snow. Best time to hit the trails, if your looking for some vitamin D, is between 11:00am and 12:30pm. Temperatures should rise to about -13c by mid day.
Mark is grooming today and he has completed Clearwater and is currently working on Busk. The short stretch of Euphrates that joins Busk Main close to the bridge and emergency first aid/sled, will be closed indefinitely due to flooding from the creek, caused by an ice dam. Mark will try to groom as much of the Apex side as possible.
December 30th is the second last day of Yule and is in honor of the goddess Iðunn and her husband Bragi. On this day Nordic people would perform the Wassailing. This is a celebration of the fertility of fruit trees. The community would encircle the largest apple tree and sing traditional songs, and drink hot mulled beverages.
