Trails and Grooming Update

January 3, 2022

Update at 3 pm, January 3rd, 2021

We regret any inconvenience but we will not be opening the kiosks at all today. Our staff were snowed in this morning. Grooming was underway, but of course, with the volume of snow, took quite a bit longer than normal. More snow is expected overnight. We are planning to address this by having Jason take a shift from 5 to 11 pm this evening to widen some of the more exposed trails on the network (Clearwater main & Cottonwood Rail Grade). Then Graham will head out again in the early morning to groom the network for tomorrow. We anticipate that the kiosks will be open tomorrow from 9 am to 3 pm, as usual. Thanks for your understanding.

EARLIER

Conditions at our club as of 6:45am is -7c with 32cm of snow accumulation overnight. Environment Canada is predicting a further 20cm before it subsides. Temperatures are predicted to drop a couple of degrees before mid day.

Grooming is underway, Clearwater is nearly done. Grooming of the remaining trails will probably take much longer than usual and need to be redone again before the trails are back to normal. Bare with us while we deal with this extraordinary amount of snow. When complete we will have a fantastic base for a good long season this year.

Today is going to be close to the Kootenay single day snowfall record of Sparwood in February 2017 where they received 60cm of snow in a single day.
