TRAILS & GROOMING UPDATE

February 9, 2021

Good Morning Nelson Nordic Team!As of 06:15 am, current temperatures at Apex is -20 Celsius (yes you read that right) with the current wind speed it can take between 10 and 30 minutes for frost bite to occur, so make sure you dress appropriately, keep exposed skin to a minimum and don’t forget your Buff for you face.

No new snow has fallen, but we still have clear skies, which means another beautiful day. Day time temperatures will increase to around -8 Celsius. Hopefully the trial PistenBully groomer has a good heater, as Mark our heroic groomer is out on Clearwater trail right now.

Busk is complete and after 07:00am grooming of the Apex side will commence. Mark tells me he is only grooming the Stadium portion of Apex this morning.

If your an early bird skier, be cautious skiing around the grooming machine.

In yesterdays Morning Trivia, I realized I forgot one Nordic country, Iceland. In Iceland the word for ski is skíði, pronounced “ski-di” modern Icelandic is almost unchanged from 1000 years ago. It would be like a place today, speaking English from before the year 1066. The funny second last character has a ” D Sound” and was common through the nordic world in the year 1000, including England!
