a Great Success at Nelson Nordic Ski Club

Nelson, BC – February 15, 2026 — Despite a mild winter and early concerns about snow conditions, the Teck Kootenay Cup 3 & 4 took place successfully on February 14 and 15 at the Nelson Nordic Ski Club. Thanks to dedicated preparation efforts and a return to true winter conditions, athletes and spectators alike enjoyed a memorable weekend of cross-country skiing.

This regional competition brought together cross-country ski enthusiasts from across British Columbia and Washington State, representing the following clubs: Nelson Nordic Ski Club, Black Jack Ski Club, Castlegar Nordic, Kimberley Nordic Club, Kaslo Nordic Ski Club, Valhalla Hills Nordic Ski Club, Hollyburn Cross Country Ski Club, and Methow Valley Nordic.

On Saturday, February 14, skiers competed in the freestyle sprint event using the exciting King’s Court format. This dynamic and fast-paced competition style created an electric atmosphere, keeping both athletes and spectators engaged throughout the day.

Sunday’s events moved to the Busk trail sector, where competitors showcased their skills in a classic technique race. From the youngest “Bunnies” (U6 skiers under six years old) to seasoned Masters athletes, participants of all ages embraced the opportunity to challenge themselves and celebrate the sport.

For many athletes, the Teck Kootenay Cup series provides a welcoming introduction to competitive cross-country skiing. The weekend once again demonstrated that competition and camaraderie go hand in hand, fostering both athletic development and community spirit in a joyful and supportive environment.

The event would not have been possible without the invaluable contribution of the many dedicated volunteers from the Nelson Nordic Ski Club. Their commitment and enthusiasm ensured a safe, well-organized, and successful competition weekend.
